The first GBS was organised by the Federal German Government’s Bioeconomy Council and held in Berlin in 2015 (GBS2015). Subsequent GBSs were held in 2018 and 2020 also in Berlin. For the first time, the GBS will be held in Africa.

GBS2024 will bring together bioeconomy experts and high-ranking representatives from politics, science, civil society and the business sector from all hemispheres. It will provide a platform to discuss global bioeconomy issues in an inclusive manner and it will profile, advance, and recognise the importance of Bioeconomy for Africa and other regions in advancing sustainable development.

It is now time to come together again and to re-visit the strategies for future international cooperation for the advancement of bioeconomy!

The GBS2024 will highlight a sustainable bioeconomy as the key to decarbonisation and sustainable transition to less fossil fuel dependent, rural and urban green economies; while building resilient and sustainable food systems, reversing biodiversity loss, meeting health challenges, and using innovation as a driver for new economic opportunities, especially jobs for the youth.
