Stellenbeschreibung
Salary: £30,942 - £40,322 per annum
Full time (36.5 hours per week) Fixed term contract for up to 36 months.
The lab of Prof. George Bassel at The University of Warwick is seeking an enthusiastic and committed postdoctoral Research Fellow to join a Human Frontiers in Science Program (HFSP) collaborative project.
The researcher will focus on the control of tree bud dormancy using Hybrid Aspen. Specifically, how the cells in these dormant buds collectively make use of low temperatures to control when their dormancy is broken (Bassel 2018, Trends in Plant Science, 23 (11), 994-1005). This will be addressed through a combination of molecular biology, 3D image analysis and computational simulations of multicellular information processing together with an international group of scientists in the HFSP consortium.
Applicants with experience in any of these areas are encouraged to apply.
Candidates should have a PhD (or equivalent) in biological research and have specialist knowledge of, or the ability to learn, plant growth, confocal microscopy and computational modelling. You will be highly motivated and have a particular interest in applying interdisciplinary approaches to plant development. You will also have excellent communication and team skills.
This will be undertaken under the overall supervision of Prof. George Bassel at The University of Warwick. Informal inquiries can be sent to
This HFSP-funded project is in collaboration with Rishi Bhalerao (Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences), Emmanuelle Bayer (CNRS, Bordeaux, France) and Sara Walker (Arizona State University).
If you have not yet been awarded your PhD but are near submission or have recently submitted your PhD, any offers of employment will be made as Research Assistant on level 5 of the University grade structure (£30,046). Upon successful award of your PhD and evidence of this fact, you will be promoted to Research Fellow on the first point of level 6 of the University grade structure (£30,942 pa).
