The research group 'Plant Microbe Interactions' at the Department of Environmental Sciences, University of Basel (https://duw.unibas.ch/en/pmi/) is welcoming applications for a position as research associate. We investigate fundamental questions of plant microbiome biology such as, we want to uncover how plants communicate to and benefit from their microbiota for growth and defense.

Your position
The open position is for an experienced researcher with the ambition to conduct independent research and to contribute to teaching in plant biology. You will build your own team within the group 'Plant Microbe Interactions'. You are expected to acquire extramural funding and to develop an innovative and independent research line that is complementary with the activities in the group. In your role as team leader, you will be responsible to advise and mentor students, to communicate your team's work and to contribute to the social and scientific activities in the group and at the Department. Teaching assignments include lecturing both at BSc level (basics in plant biology) as well as MSc courses on molecular plant microbe topics.

Your profile
You hold a doctoral degree in plant science or a related discipline and you have 3+ years of postdoctoral experience. Candidates are expected to have a strong background in plant microbe interactions with experience in, but not limited to, molecular microbiology, pathogens, fungi, biochemistry, physiology or microbiomics. We are searching a team player that is highly self-motivated and committed, with a proactive mindset and a getting-things-done attitude, is collaborative and has the ability to work well in an interdisciplinary and international environment. Fluency in English is a prerequisite.

The position can be filled at 70-100%, is currently limited to 2 years and has the option of tenure. Salary will be according to the guidelines of the University of Basel. The position is available from now; start upon agreement.
